My profile crashed! How to recover crashed profile?

The story goes like this, i turn off the system restore function a few days ago for security reasons(because the net says system restore function might restore virus back).

So today, my profile crashed when i restarted it. It says windows is unable to load my profile because my profile had either crashed or something(cant remember). I panicked and i restart it again. All my stuff are gone and i dont save my picture in the documents but i save it at the desktop. Now my desktop has no files at all, its like a new profile. I have this important pictures that i saved in my desktop for my school project and its all gone. Pls help me. Is there anyway to recover it?

p/s: i dont mind losing the other stuff in my profile but what saddens me the most is that i had lost all my school project pictures and notes which i saved in my desktop(its actually took me days to find all the stuff). If u have any suggestion pls help me. T.T

If you are using win2000 or XP or Vista, you should be able to go to the C:\Documents and Settings and your old user name. It will probably have your pc name after the user name. Copy everything from the old profile as in the my documents and any other data to your new profile. You will also want to copy all the desktop icons back over too. Once you know it is working ok then delete the old profile. Hope this helps.
